A special note from Mike
This listing is for the most commonly requested size of mixed media pet portraiture that I do. They are done on watercolor paper and I use a mix of watercolor, inks and pastels. You get to choose if you want your piece more energetic and brushy or clean and realistic.
In a nutshell: you send me a great photo of your pet and I will send you an incredible painting.
If you're here you're probably looking for something different. There are all sorts of great artists doing pet portraits but mine have an edgy, contemporary lean that isn't always present in pet art. I've taken my comic inspired mixed media approach and created an energetic, stylized portrait method that doesn't require extreme amounts of time and is therefore very affordable. You send me a great photo of your pet and I will send you an incredible painting. The tone and style of each piece varies depending on your preference. They can be ultra brushy and energetic or much more clean and realistic.
This listing is for a single pet, but any and all combinations are available. If you would like a quote for a combination other than what is listed just contact me.
What you are buying: This listing is for a single pet portrait (any animal, llamas welcome!) done as full-color custom painting. Your piece of art will be done on watercolor paper or art board and matting is available for an additional cost. I only use crescent board canvas mats in warm white. The photos above are but a few examples of my work and style, each one is a bit different based on your photo and the info you provide about your pet -- no acrylic or oil paint will be used. I'll be using a variety of inks, water-based media, charcoal and pastels to create your art.
The process: Before I start I'll need to get at least one quality picture of your pet as well as some basic information. You don't need to worry about the lighting or background, just the pose. Some of the portraits will have white or simple backgrounds and others will have detail--it's all situational and it doesn't change the price. Once I have your info I will do a quick digital proof for approval, this will show the basic layout, shapes and colors. After you approve the design I will paint your piece (many buyers choose to forego this, but that's up to you). The larger the piece the longer it will take to complete.
What you will receive: I will email you a full-size scan of your artwork along with the physical copy of the painting. 11x17" and smaller pieces will be sent in flat, rigid mailers via the USPS and all larger pieces will be boxed and shipped via USPS priority mail.
Sizes: I am currently offering listings for 9x12", 11x14", 12x16"" and 12x18" because they are the most popular and easiest to frame. Custom sizes are absolutely available and feel free to send me a message with the photo you are considering and I can give my recommendations as to what will work best.
